The deal will find Alvarez working exclusively on comics published by DC and its mature readers imprint, Vertigo.

“I’ve been a DC fan since childhood, so becoming a part of the DC family is one of the best moments in my professional career,” Martinez said in a statement. “Also, I´m blessed to be working on DETECTIVE COMICS, a series with an incredible legacy in the comic book industry. I’m determined to do my best job with every issue and I hope the fans will love it as much as I love working on the book!”

Official Press Release

DC Entertainment (DCE) continues to grow its talent roster with some of the best names in the business, announcing today that DETECTIVE COMICS artist Alvaro Martinez has agreed to create content solely for the DC and Vertigo imprints.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Alvaro choose DC as his creative home,” said Bob Harras, Editor-in-Chief, DC Comics. “He’s incredibly talented and his style is an enhancement to the great stories being told in DETECTIVE COMICS.”

Martinez is no stranger to DC nor to the Bat-family and writer James Tynion IV—he contributed art to both the BATMAN ETERNAL weekly series in 2014 and the BATMAN AND ROBIN ETERNAL weekly series in 2015. Along with co-artist and fellow DC talent Eddy Barrows, Martinez is the perfect selection to work with Tynion IV, and will be the featured artist on Part One of “The Victim Syndicate,” the next story arc beginning in DETECTIVE COMICS #943, on sale October 26.

“I’ve been a DC fan since childhood, so becoming a part of the DC family is one of the best moments in my professional career,” said Martinez. “Also, I´m blessed to be working on DETECTIVE COMICS, a series with an incredible legacy in the comic book industry. I’m determined to do my best job with every issue and I hope the fans will love it as much as I love working on the book!”
