Crafty Nerd: 90s Crafts We Wish Would Make a Comeback

by Jaime Whittaker (@JaimeW912)

90s Crafts We Wish Would Make a Comeback!

Remember the 90s? I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how different things were growing up in the 90s compared to today. The 90s were kind of divided up into your bright, colorful, neon everything, to the darker, grungy stuff. It is so easy for me to take a trip down memory lane and binge through Backstreet Boys videos, sing theme songs from the Disney after school block, and of course look through old yearbooks at how much the fashions have changed. The 90s have made a comeback in many ways. Whether it is longing for a better time or just pure nostalgia, the 90s are pretty much everywhere right now. So today I decided to showcase some of the 90s crafts that we wish would make a comeback. Let’s kick it!

images.washingtonpost.com

Remember Sand Art?

All you needed was a bottle, several different colors of sand, and a cork! Just pour layers of different colors in whatever design you so choose. (Googly eyes made them even more special!)

Seed Bead Daisy Chain Jewelry

This stuff was the bomb! From necklaces, bracelets, ankle bracelets, and even belly chains, these were everywhere!

Image18Photo Credit: The Feisty Redhead

Macramé Friendship Bracelets!

There was always one girl in your circle of girlfriends that was so good at making these that she HAD to make one (or several) for everyone!

Image19Photo Credit: Quiet Mischief

Pony Bead Lizards

Do you remember having one of these hanging from your backpack in middle school?

Image20Photo Credit: Sugar Bee Crafts

Plastic Gimp Lanyards!

These were another must have for all the trendy 90s kids.

Image21Photo Credit: Wiki How

Lisa Frank EVERYTHING!

From velvet posters, to coloring books, to stamps, bead kits, and stationary, this world of neon rainbow awesomeness was everywhere in the 90s! It’s still around today, just not as prominently as it was in our day.

Image22Photo Credit: Carly Mark – Foundations

Scrunchie Maker!

I don’t know about you, but I LOVED scrunchies! I say we bring them back! It was even better when you got to design your own.

Image23Photo Credit: Toys ‘R Us

While you may be lucky enough to spot modern day replicas of some of these craft trends, you just can’t beat the originals. I say let’s just bring it all back! Who’s with me?! Okay, so maybe we can do without some of the fashion trends of the 90s but let’s be honest…wasn’t this era awesome? From the cartoons, to the music, to the cheesy school photo backdrops, and of course all of these crafty items kids used to make, it really was a great era to grow up in.

Until next time, stay nerdy my friends!
