Remember those neat little one-shots Marvel used to make, like “A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to Thor’s Hammer,” where Agent Coulson visits a gas station and ends up preventing a robbery (in an absolutely epic way) before he nonchalantly goes to pay for his stuff? If you stay for the after-credit scenes or inhale the special features included with your Blu-rays, you probably know about them. The first one-shot was released with Thor, which was about Tony Stark’s appearance at the end of The Incredible Hulk. The last one-shot released pertained to the Mandarin storyline from Iron Man 3. However, if Tom Holland — our brand-new Peter Parker — is to be believed, Marvel Studios may very well be reviving their one-shot film series!
In a recent interview with Uproxx, Holland accidentally let the teaser slip, stating, “I think they’re planning on doing it again…I probably just spoiled a big spoiler. Kevin Feige’s probably going to be furious.”
Holland also explained he wants to team up with Ant-Man at one point. “I want to do a short. That’s what I want to do. I want to do a 20-minute short with me and Paul Rudd.”
Holland is pretty notorious for his inability to keep secrets — which is why he hasn’t been permitted to read the Avengers: Infinity War script yet — so perhaps Marvel really will pick up the fun shorts once more. Since Marvel stopped making one-shots, the Russo brothers have teased that one-shots could return for online viewers, and Kevin Feige himself has suggested that there are plenty of ideas that could be developed into one-shots. Last year, he said, “We talk about that a lot actually…and we go, ‘What are we going to do with Howard [the Duck]? What are we going to do with Cosmo?’…I mean, the universe is big.”
