Marvel Comics unveiling digital timeline for 75-year anniversary

Marvel Comics unveiling digital timeline for 75-year anniversary

From the Golden Age Toro to Ultimate Human Torch, characters sprung from Marvel Entertainment are as varied as the people who read, watch, listen and even play them in video games.

The publisher of Marvel Comics is focusing on its panoply of characters, enlisting writers, artists, editors and historians to build a sprawling digital and interactive timeline that showcases the famous, the infamous and the obscure heroes, villains and others.

The endeavor is part of Marvel's celebration of its 75th anniversary, said editor-in-chief Axel Alonso, and to make people aware of more than marquee names like Captain America or Spider-Man.
"We want it to be as friendly to people who come out of the Cineplex to people who have long boxes in their basement," he said this week of the site at www.marvel.com/75. "It's time for us to underline that and show our rich history."

The site, which goes live in April, features interactive timelines, interviews with classic writers and artists — including Stan Lee and Roy Thomas — along with contemporary ones like Dan Slott, Kelly Sue DeConnick and Brian Michael Bendis, among others.

Captain America's Sebastian Stan: 'Marvel will beat DC in 2016 clash'

Captain America franchise star Sebastian Stan has weighed in on the third film's purported box office battle with the Batman vs Superman movie.

It was reported last week that the biggest-ever box office competition between Marvel and DC will happen on May 6, 2016, when Captain America 3 and Batman vs Superman both open.

Stan - who has a nine-picture Marvel contract to play The Winter Soldier - was recently asked to predict the winner of Marvel and DC's opposing releases.

"All you have to do to know the answer to that question is look at the track record of Marvel versus DC," he replied to Access Hollywood.

The star continued: "[Look at] Green Lantern! I'm biased. I'm on [the Marvel] side…. I'm with [directors] the [Russo] brothers. They made a great film.
