The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer premiered Thursday during the Olympics on NBC and boy, was it a doozy.
The trailer hints at a darker tone than previous Star Wars films and gives a glimpse of the deeper plot at hand. It is a standalone film, but the events at the end will lead directly into 1977’s A New Hope.
Rogue One stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, the leader of a team assembled by Mon Mothma on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. Other members of the team include Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna, plus Alan Tudyk stars as new droid K-2SO. James Earl Jones also returns as the voice of Darth Vader, and the trailer gives the first glimpse of the fearsome villain as seen in a Star Wars film in 11 years.
Watch the trailer below and let us know if you’ll be going to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when it hits theaters December 16, 2016.
