Warner Bros. Releases Two New Wonder Woman TV Spots

By: Karen Valenzuela (@VictoriaNoir89)

Not one but TWO new TV spots were released on Thursday for Wonder Woman, now that we’re only 35 days away from the film’s premiere. (Cover your dog’s ears because the squeal I’m about to let loose will be painful for them………… And I’m done. Your dog is safe.)

The first is called “Together” and features Wonder Woman and spy for the Allies, Steve Trevor. In the film, Steve enlists her help to take down an Axis general and Doctor Poison, who have created a chemical weapon even worse than the horrific mustard gas used in World War I. One of Wonder Woman’s greatest foes in the comics, the god of war Ares, will also appear in the film, and we see a glimpse of him in this TV spot. David Thewlis is Ares in disguise as one Sir Patrick Morgan, who is, for all intents and purposes, an advocate for peace on the war council for the Allied forces. So the god of war Ares is pretending to be a man who is an advocate for peace while sitting on the war council. It’s just too good. Also a fun bit: Diana trying to tell Sir Morgan she’s Diana, Princess of Themyscira and Steve interrupting, “Prince! Diana Prince!” Because Diana has no chill.

Take a peek, Wonder fans!

The second TV spot is called “Power.” It’s a very apropos title for the TV spot, considering SHE KNEES AN AXIS SOLDIER THROUGH A WINDOW. (Fun fact: I yelled, “YOOOOOO!!!!!!” really loudly and then cursed in my workplace when this happened. It’s okay. Don’t worry. I’m not fired.) Keep your ears tuned for a particularly fantastic line from Diana: “I will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.” The most Wonder Woman-y line EVER, right there. Oh, and the lasso of truth??? It’s unbelievably stunning. It gets better every time I see it.

Just don’t be mean to people and this won’t happen to you.

Here’s the TV spot!

These TV spots came after a lot of Internet discussion about a lack of adequate promotion for the film from the Warner Bros. folks. And, to be honest, they have a point. Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad had in-your-face-24/7 promotion in the months leading up to their premieres. Just 35 days away from Wonder Woman’s premiere, it seems almost like a glaring error on DC & WB’s part that we don’t have Wonder Woman literally EVERYWHERE. This is, after all, the first female-led action film with a $100 million budget, and the very first live-action Wonder Woman film. We’ve gotten three full-length trailers since last year, two Tilt Brush behind-the-scenes videos on the concept art…and now these two TV spots. By the time we were a month away from Suicide Squad, WB released four TV spots, three trailers, cool biography videos of each member of the squad, a promotional video for buying advanced tickets…Even Justice League, which hits theaters in November, has more promotional videos, behind the scenes videos, and biography videos. Merch for Wonder Woman is also lacking, big time. There are a some Funko Pops, some Barbies and action figures, but most of the marketing is based on Wondie’s comic books, not the film coming out in JUST ONE MONTH.

Let’s hope these TV spots are just the tip of the promotional iceberg. I want to be BURIED in Wonder Woman promotion between now and June 2nd. And if I’m not, well then… It’s up to us, Wonder fans. Buy tickets, go see the film, drag your friends, coerce them with overpriced popcorn and sodas that are the size of Alaska. And Warner Bros….? Real talk, guys. Just do better.

Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Lucy Davis, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, and a bunch of bad-ass women who play Themysciran warriors. So…definitely go see that.

It hits theaters on June 2, 2017!
