Witness the Power of This Star Wars Death Star Popcorn Maker

Witness the Power of This Star Wars Death Star Popcorn Maker

It’s been well established that the Death Star was a boondoggle that would’ve cost the Galactic Empire the equivalent of $193 quintillion — and that’s just for the first one. The second space station is estimated to have cost about twice as much!

The moon-sized weapon didn’t make any military or economic sense, making Emperor Palpatine’s ego (or incompetence) the only logical explanation for their construction. Clearly, Ol’ Wrinkly had a thing for Death Stars, so it’s easy to imagine him padding the budget a little for development of something completely frivolous … like, say, this Death Star popcorn maker.

Part of the tidal wave of merchandise tied to the release of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” the hot-air popcorn maker of course — of course! — resembles the Empire’s deadly, planet-destroying weapon. Presumably, it doesn’t contain the same disastrous design flaws of the original (but just to be sure, you may want to keep it away from any young pilots from Tatooine).

As you can see from the images, the top of the Death Star double as a popcorn bowl, perfect for sharing while enjoying a “Star Wars” marathon with a friend or loved one. However, we’d suggest not inviting Jabba the Hutt for movie night; he’s a messy eater.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. The film opens Dec. 16.
