A couple weeks after Ben Affleck teased us on social media with test footage of Deathstroke in full costume, it has been officially announced that Joe Manganiello will be playing Deathstroke. This should come as no surprise, seeing that Manganiello followed Affleck, Justice League director Zack Snyder and Suicide Squad director David Ayer on Twitter immediately after the footage was released.
Manganiello is a safe and superb choice for Deathstroke, Manganiello has the looks and figure to portray a truly formidable antagonist for Affleck’s Batman. Manganiello is best known for playing a werewolf on HBO’s True Blood, a stripper in Magic Mike and its sequel, and Pee-wee Herman’s best friend in Pee-wee’s Big Holiday.
With Deathstroke being announced as the main antagonist, it begs the question of what use there will be for Jared Leto’s Joker in Affleck’s solo Batman movie. The film reportedly takes place inside Arkham Asylum, so it might follow the video games. If that’s the case, there will be a plethora of Batman villains in addition to Deathstroke and Joker. Irregardless, this news has me excited. Great things are in store for the DCEU.
