Wreck-It Ralph 2 Announced for 2018 by Walt Disney Animation

Walt Disney Animation Studios took to Facebook Live today to have director Rich Moore, writer Phil Johnston and actor John C. Reilly announce a sequel to the 2012 video game-centric animated hit Wreck-It Ralph. Johnston and Moore will be co-directing Wreck-It Ralph 2 with John C. Reilly reprising the title role.

John C. Reilly made the official announcement:

“I would like to say to the internet right now officially that Disney Animation is making the sequel to Wreck-It Ralph and it comes out March 9th, 2018.”

Moore gave us a tiny glimpse of the plot:

“This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web, as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them, and the actors who voice them, once again.”

Johnston added on by noting:

“The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope. The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.”

RalphJohn C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman will reprise their roles. No other new or returning cast members have been announced.

For those unfamiliar with the first installment, here’s the official synopsis from Disney:

Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove that he can be a hero.
