Nerd Fashion: Nerd Weddings

by Jaime Whittaker (@JaimeW912)

Ah, Nerd Weddings. In an age in which more and more nerds are proudly letting their nerd flags fly, nerd weddings are becoming ever more popular. Your wedding is one of the most memorable days of your life and it should really say something about you and your soon-to-be spouse. I have seen some rather miraculous nerd weddings, and here they are!

Harry Potter – Cassie and Lewis Byrom

When two nerds are Potter-heads who get engaged at Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter, of course they should have a Potterific wedding! Cassie and Lewis’ reading contained actual lines from The Order of the Phoenix, Cassie’s bouquet was made entirely out of pages from the books, all of the guests got their own wands, and Cassie and Lewis even accessorized to fit the theme.

Fan Expo Dallas – Gina and Matthew

After proposing to Gina with a ring inside of a Pokeball, Gina and Matthew decided to hold their wedding at Fan Expo Dallas. This will be the couple’s first time setting foot in a con, and will be the first ever wedding for Fan Expo Dallas. Gina and Matthew have issued an open invitation for anyone attending the con. If you are planning on attending Fan Expo Dallas and are interested in attending the wedding, it will be held on Friday, June 3rd at 5pm in Theatre A1. Read more on the Fan Expo Dallas page here. I know when you hear the words “Game of Thrones” and “Wedding” some people immediately think of the Red Wedding. However, a Game of Thrones theme can create a beautifully, medieval setting. Of course you should make sure that the food fits with the theme.

Can’t Decide on a Theme?

Sometimes you love so many nerdy things that you just can’t decide on one theme. It’s okay to incorporate more than one of your nerdy loves as long as you stick with a centralized color palette to tie it all together. When my hubby and I renewed our vows two years ago, we threw the nerd wedding we never had. I wanted to do it on a budget so I made everything with the help of my sister-in-law. We did try to stick to only a few nerd themes so our theme centered mainly around Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Superheroes, and just a smidge of Star Wars with the mini light sabers we had on the table!  Check out some of our photos:

I now pronounce you Nerd, and Nerdette! You may kiss the nerd! Have you or someone you know thrown a nerd themed wedding? Feel free to share!

Stay Nerdy, my friends!
