“You can touch every piece of the Broadway experience by coming to this conference,” says Melissa Anelli, Executive Director of BroadwayCon. “You can learn, have fun, and play – and it’s the only place in the world like that for a Broadway fan.”
The three-day expo allows fans to cosplay, meet, and interact with their favorite Broadway stars, attend panels, and see a showcase of new and popular shows. The 2018 event will be held January 26-28 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Recently, Anelli shared with Nerd HQ three cool things BroadwayCon attendees should check out during the 2018 event.
Cool thing #1: Search the Marketplace
The BroadwayCon Marketplace is a shopper’s paradise. It is the place for attendees to find one-of-a-kind merch, collectibles, and other industry resources. A number of vendors from around the country are expected to be in attendance during the 2018 event. “The Marketplace is an incredibly lively area. It’s where everybody comes to learn about different initiatives in the Broadway space, performances are held there, and it’s a really cool area,” Anelli said.
Cool thing #2: Visit the MainStage
The BroadwayCon MainStage is the nighttime programming area, the place to go to for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the place to see some exciting, can’t miss, showcases, panels, and special events. According to Anelli, “On the MainStage, you tend to see a lot of the big shows doing and panels, and there are some performances held there as well.” Some of BroadwayCon’s anticipated special guests include Donna Murphy, Laura Benanti, Alex Brightman, Laura Osnes, and more. For a complete list of 2018’s special guests, visit broadwaycon.com/guests.
Cool thing #3: Attend a workshop
The workshops are an intimate, hands-on experience that doesn’t cost any more than the regular ticket price. However, attendees must apply to attend ahead of time. The workshops allow attendees to hone their skills in acting, singing, dancing, and more. “We gather 12 to 20 professional actors, writers, and choreographers to teach the workshops,” said Anelli. “I love that we’re giving the fans an opportunity to get up close and personal with people that they would have only waived to at a stage door.”
If you’re planning to attend BroadwayCon, don’t forget to take in the cosplay, participate in a meet and greet with some of Broadway’s best and brightest, or mix and mingle with other Broadway enthusiasts. To learn more about BroadwayCon 2018, visit broadwaycon.com.
