Disnerds, prepare yourselves.
The D23 Expo, “the ultimate Disney fan event”, is coming to the Anaheim Convention Center this weekend and it’s guaranteed to bring lots of news about future projects for the company.
We’re not just talking about movies, folks. D23 has a panel dedicated to every segment of the massive Disney brand, from television to theme parks to merchandise. And Nerd HQ will be there to get all the latest scoop!
This is the fifth expo that the company has held– the last one was back in 2015. Known for surprise celebrity appearances and top-secret sneak peeks, the D23 Expo promises to bring panels and experiences like no other convention, and this year seems to be no different.
In Hall D23, the main panel room of the con, fans will get to see glimpses of upcoming film releases, both animation and live-action. The Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios panel on Friday will cover both Wreck-It Ralph 2 and Pixar’s Coco, while The Walt Disney Studios panel on Saturday will cover upcoming releases from Marvel, Lucasfilm, and other Disney properties (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Star Wars, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi have already been announced to be discussed in the panel).
There’s also a panel on Saturday that will discuss upcoming projects within Disney’s theme parks and resorts, like the already-announced Star Wars Lands that will be coming to both the California and Florida parks.
In addition, the annual “Legends” ceremony at the expo will honor nine new inductees into Disney’s version of their hall-of-fame, including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Oprah Winfrey, and Stan Lee, among others.
But that’s not all! There will be panels for both upcoming and current television series, such as ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” and The Disney Channel’s “Tangled: The Series” (with our very own Zachary Levi, of course) and “Ducktales”, with lots of celebrity meet-and-greets and autograph signings throughout the weekend.
And if that’s not enough, there will also be panels and exhibits on the Disney Archives, celebrations for older films and series, upcoming gaming releases like “Kingdom Hearts III” and “Star Wars Battlefront II”, future books and merchandise for Disney and Marvel properties, inside looks at the studios and works of the animators, and more.
Finally, it wouldn’t be a Disney event without limited-edition, unique merchandise! The convention will have several large shopping areas with access to both unreleased and convention-only merchandise for the biggest Disney memorabilia fans.
D23 definitely sounds like it’ll be something to remember, but don’t worry– we’ll be posting recaps of each day of the convention here on NerdHQ.com! Also, keep an eye on our Twitter for updates from the con floor.
Single-Day passes to the D23 Expo are still available for Friday and Sunday ONLY, and can be purchased here. You can also visit the site for more information. Stay tuned for more D23 news this weekend!
