It’s a good day to be a Disnerd, guys. They’ve just announced a bunch of release dates for several movies, both live-action and animated. Among the dates? The upcoming 5th Indiana Jones movie, which is still untitled, and Star Wars IX. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait a little while before seeing them.
“Star Wars: Episode IX”, which will finish out the third trilogy, is set for release on May 24, 2019 (only two years and 29 days left…). Colin Trevorrow is set to direct, with Rian Johnson and Derek Connolly writing. Kathleen Kennedy (who is also working on the new Indiana Jones film) and Michelle Rejwan are producing. The still-rumored cast includes Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, John Boyega, and Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata. John Williams is working on the soundtrack, of course. Plot details have yet to be released. Despite information from Carrie Fisher’s brother stating that Lucasfilm had been provided with the necessary rights to appear in Episode 9 through cut scenes from “The Last Jedi”, Kathleen Kennedy (president of Lucasfilm) recently sat down for an interview with ABC News, suggesting that Fisher wouldn’t be in Episode 9 after all. Only time will tell exactly how they plan to work out Episode 9 in lieu of Carrie Fisher’s death.
The upcoming movie for the Indiana Jones franchise is set to release July 10, 2020. Additional information has yet to be released for the film. The original release date for this film was expected to be in 2019, but the film was pushed back a year, perhaps due to scheduling conflicts for Spielberg, who is working on multiple different projects at this time, including “Ready Player One” and “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara”.
Release dates were also announced for “Frozen 2” (just when we thought the craze was finally settling down), “The Lion King”, “Gigantic”, “Wreck-It Ralph 2”, “Magic Camp”, and “A Wrinkle in Time”.
