Wonder Woman: New Set Photo Released

By Karen Valenzuela (@VictoriaNoir89)

Fellow Wonder fans, there are only 113 days left until Warner Bros./DC Comics’ “Wonder Woman” hits theaters! Can you feel it?

In the meantime, the cast and crew of “Wonder Woman” has been sharing spectacular trailers, tidbits of information about the plot and villains, photographs from the set, and rad collectible actions figures and toys.

This week alone, Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman/Diana Prince in the film, shared a new behind-the-scenes photograph from the “Wonder Woman” set on her social media.

Princess Diana is decked out in her traditional Themysciran armor in the photograph, so we can assume this is from before she leaves Themyscira with Steve Trevor. In the background, we see two other Themyscirans similarly armored, and above them on the rock ledge we see what appears to be some sort of ceremonial gong, perhaps. One thing is for sure, the details on that breastplate are 100% delicious.

Most recently, an as-of-yet-unconfirmed source tweeted images of the action figures DC Comics is releasing for the film. There is one of Princess Diana in her Themysciran armor, and one of Steve Trevor.

Again, this source is not confirmed. But if it is to be believed, this particular line of DC Multiverse action figures each come with a bonus piece for another character. You have to collect each figure in the Wonder Woman line to get the different pieces. Put them all together and you get Ares. It has not been officially confirmed yet, but a French publication hinted at Ares being the main villain in “Wonder Woman”. It’s entirely plausible, considering Ares is the God of War. Throughout Wondie’s 75 year existence, Ares is a recurring villain, his jealousy of humans causing him to find a way to pit them against one another. We know this film takes place during World War I, a horrendously gruesome and unprecendented event that resulted in the wiping out of almost an entire generation. It’s safe to assume this would fit Ares’ purpose nicely.

What do you think, nerds? Will Ares be the main villain in “Wonder Woman”? With only 4 months left until it premieres, we can expect an official announcement on the antagonist soon, as well as some more clips, TV spots, product, and photos!

Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2, 2017. It stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Lucy Davis, Robin Wright, and Danny Huston. Patty Jenkins directs, with a screenplay written by Geoff Johns and Allan Heinberg.
