Not only do astronauts living on the International Space Station have the cool opportunity to, you know, live in space, they’re also about to get the chance to do something else neat: see a movie before us plebian Earthlings.
To celebrate the world premiere of the upcoming film Passengers, Sony is providing NASA with a copy of the film to send to the ISS for the astronauts to watch during their limited downtime. NASA will also have a presence at the Los Angeles premiere, as former astronauts Garrett Reisman, Michael Massimino, and Nicole Stott will walk the red carpet to honor the occasion.
Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt star in Passengers, which tells the story of two strangers on a 120-year journey to colonize a new planet, but their hibernation pods wake them up 90 years too early. The two must unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, but will they be too late and jeopardize the entire mission of finding a new home?
Starting today, fans can watch a PSA starring Lawrence and Pratt about NASA’s search for other possibly habitable planets. Remarking on the film heading to space and NASA’s ongoing explorations, Neal H. Moritz, a producer of Passengers, said, “The movie is about the very real possibility of traveling to a new home around another star.
