Doctor Strange’s Benedict Cumberbatch to Host SNL

Doctor Strange’s Benedict Cumberbatch to Host SNL

The same weekend that Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” materialize in North American theaters, star Benedict Cumberbatch will be summoned as the host of “Saturday Night Live.”

No, not the Hoary Hosts of Hoggarth, the host! He’ll be joined on the Nov. 5 episode of the NBC sketch-comedy show by musical guest Solange Knowles.

His fellow Marvel Studios star Chris Hemsworth hosted “SNL” twice last year, and even suited up as Thor for a sketch in which the thunder god celebrated in the streets following the Avengers’ defeat of Ultron.

Cumberbatch got into the parody act himself last week on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” where the Sorcerer Supreme was called in to entertain at a kids’ birthday party. It seems a good bet that he’ll don the Cloak of Levitation again for “Saturday Night Live.”

“SNL” will take off Oct. 29, which leaves the show will only one more episode before the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 8.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, “Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Stephen Strange who, following a career-ending car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets  of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Opening Nov. 4, the film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton.
