Nerdy News Bites 5/27/2016
by Veronica “Roni” Sepulveda (@vRONIs)
I have to be selfish for a moment and stress that though there was quite a bit of happy news (Chewbacca mom) and shocking news (Captain America) this week, only one thing was on my mind.
So I want to start with this, because I have been waiting for it for so long!
10. Beauty and the Beast
I’m sure you all saw the actual trailer, so I wanted to post the side by side comparison with the original trailer. It’s just the best kind of nostalgia, the warm and fuzzy kind.
9. Luke Cage
Some set photos were released showcasing other characters, including Diamondback. See more here.

8. Iron Fist
Now connecting the Marvel/Netflix universe, is Carrie-Ann Moss, who was announced to join the Iron Fist Cast. See more here.

7. Netflix/Disney
Speaking of Netflix and Disney… they have finalized a deal where Netflix will be the exclusive pay-TV provider for all their films from 2016 and beyond. This deal will include future Star Wars, Marvel and more! This will take effect in September, so get ready Disnerds! See more here.
6 Loki and Heimdall
I have to admit, when Tom and Idris graced my Twitter feed, I nearly fainted. I’m not ashamed to say! That is just too much beauty in one photo. Just saying. These lovely gents and other fellow thespians are banding together to support the British Film Institute (BFI). It’s crazy to think the UK doesn’t have a film-making ‘home base’, when the country’s contributions to the industry are undeniable. Come 2022, the BFI will be open on the South Bank close to the London Eye! See more here.
5 Ghost in The Shell
Seems Rila Fukushima, who was a fan favorite for the starring role (Major Motoko Kusanagi), has joined the Ghost in The Shell cast in a supporting role. Thoughts? See more here.
4. Ready Player One
All you digital artist nerds and Ready Player One lovers, your avatar could be a part of the film! Take a listen below!
3. Cap
A bit of controversy graced the nerdom this week with the announcement that Cap was Hydra all along. The initial reaction is of course, a sense of betrayal. Some may wonder why folks are so upset. Cap is more than a comic book character, he is a symbol. He is a historical figure, a representation/inspiration of and for soldiers who fought in a real war. Taking comics as “just” art, I can agree the creators owe the fans nothing. Creators tell stories for us to digest. Granted, it is difficult to not feel ownership with a character who has been around for 75 years and now has a face in the MCU. Ultimately, the fandom must be patient. Who knows what can happen in this run of Cap comics. Everything could go back to normal in the next issue. Perhaps many of the conspiracy theories out there about Red Skull are correct. If this is the case, then congrats Marvel, you now know how much Cap means to the people. If he really is Hydra, then…

2. Return of the Jedi
A rare trailer was uncovered by the Academy for the 39th anniversary of Return of the Jedi.
1. Star Wars Show
Check out the Star Wars show as they reveal Rogue One character art, talk to the delightful Chewbacca mom, Candace, and a many Star Wars Happy Birthday!
There you have it nerds. I want to end this week with #EnjoyTheSimpleThings, #YouCantErase75YearsOfHistory, and #NoMoreDireWolfDeaths.
Nerd On!
