Marvel's 'Ant-Man' Eyes 'House Of Cards' Star
Corey Stoll is in early talks to join Marvel's big-screen take on the small-sized superhero.
Marvel Studios and director Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" adaptation continues shaping up, with a new name added to the mix: Corey Stoll.
Stoll, best known for his starring turn on Netflix's "House of Cards," is in early talks to join the cast of "Ant-Man." The Wrap first reported the news, but has no further details on who Stoll might be playing. For all we know, he's playing Ant-Man; after all, there are already two Ant-Men in the mix, with Paul Rudd playing Scott Lang and Michael Douglas on board as Hank Pym. What's one more Ant-Man between friends?
In all likelihood, Stoll isn't playing a third Ant-Man. Perhaps he's a villain, or perhaps he's a scientist who works on Pym's staff. Perhaps he's someone else entirely. Either way, Stoll is a fantastic addition to what's shaping up to be a fantastic cast. Rudd and Douglas are the only announced "Ant-Man" actors, but other rumored names include "Lost" and "The Hobbit" star Evangeline Lilly, "End of Watch" actor Michael Pena, and "Watchmen" superhero Patrick Wilson.
"Ant-Man" is an important next step for the Marvel movies. It's the first film on the schedule following "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," signaling the beginning of Marvel Phase Three. Even with three movies still to be released as part of Marvel's second phase (next month's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," August's "Guardians of the Galaxy" and May 2015's "Avengers" sequel), fans are already wondering what the third phase of Marvel superhero films will look like. Speculation ranges from "Captain America" and "Thor" sequels to brand-new fare like "Doctor Strange" and "Ms. Marvel."
At the moment, "Ant-Man" is the only Phase Three film we're completely sure about. At the moment, that's all we need.
"Ant-Man" hits theaters on July 17, 2015.
